Tell TfL: Save our Buses!
Labour's NICs tax hike must not cut our buses
I'm campaigning to save these key local routes for local people
Our buses must not be scrapped
So many local people rely on them to get to work, the shops, or just see friends and family in our corner of south London already cut off from so much of the TfL network.
On the 22nd of January 2026 Go-Ahead Buses confirmed they would be looking to renegotiate their contracts to deliver bus services across South London that so many people rely on because the Government's foolish Jobs Tax had made it unaffordable.
My Lib Dem colleagues and I are calling on the Mayor of London to step in and guarantee the future of these routes.
This is incredibly important - so many people will be impacted if these bus routes are scrapped. Labour made this mess, so they must fix it.
Tell the Mayor of London: Don't let our buses go!
We, the undersigned, call on the Mayor of London to step in to guarantee that the bus routes currently operated by Go Ahead will not be scrapped if they cannot afford to continue to operate the routes.
We've had confirmation that Go-Ahead will not be walking away from providing their existing bus services with TfL, but the situation is still deeply concerning, as they have informed TfL that they need to retender the contract because of hugely increased costs.
In late January I was able to visit the Sutton bus garage on Bushey Road, and talk to Andy Edwards who is the Managing Director of Go-Ahead London about the news we saw over the weekend about possible cuts to BUS services in Sutton.
Andy explained how Go-Ahead were keen to continue to operate the 80, 93, 151, 154, 155, 163, 164 and 470 bus routes, but they needed new contract terms so that they could afford to operate them.
My fear is that TfL will need to reduce frequencies or change routes to make these services viable, something that would be completely unacceptable for local residents who rely on busses in a borough with no tube or overground services, and only a single tram stop in far away Beddington.
My job as the MP for Sutton and Cheam is to raise the concerns of my constituents, and try to protect their interests, and in this case I need your help to sign my petition to show the strength of feeling on this issue.
I toured the bus garage, which employs over 300 local people, and saw the huge investment made recently on fully electrifying the fleet of more than 80 busses based in the depot. I spoke with drivers about the new busses, and how the new electric busses were much more comfortable and responsive to drive than the older hybrid and diesel busses.
I hope to hear from TfL soon that the frequencies and bus routes we all rely on will be unchanged when the contract is re-let.
